Survived by: 2 sons, Todd and daughter-in-law, Shirley and Chris; daughter, Kelly and son-in-law, Buddy VanLandingham; 1 brother, Jerry; 1 sister, Mary; his former wife, Sara Jean; and 5 grandchildren, Peyton, Jacob, Sadie, Parker and Sophie. Gary lived west of downtown Tulsa in his boyhood. As a youth he developed a deep love of baseball and played as a youngster continuing through college when he pitched for the TU baseball team. He graduated from Central High School in 1950 at age 17. Gary paid his way through college while he was the Athletic Director at the Red Shield Boys Club and graduated from Tulsa University in 1956 with a degree in Economics.
After graduation he voluntarily joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Tortuga originating in San Diego and touring the Far East. He began TU Law School in 1961 and married Sara Jean in same year. After daughter, Kelly Jean was born in 1964, he graduated from TU Law School in 1965 and started work as a volunteer legal aide for the poor. Son, Todd Andrew was born in 1967 and son, Christopher Matthew was born in 1970.
He joined Frasier and Frasier for his law practice in the mid-1970s. He again traveled extensively in the Far East in the 1990s to Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and China. He joined Tulsa International Baptist Church in 1992 and actively served in various ministries for the Lord Jesus Christ. It was an honor and a privilege to have him as a parent, brother and friend. He will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church, 714 N. Harvard Ave. in Tulsa. BURNETT Ruth Pauline Lucy, age 76, of Jenks, OK, formerly of Little Rock, died Friday, December 1, 2000.
Born in Pope County, AR, she was a homemaker and a member of the Beaver Street Baptist Church in Jenks. She was a charter member of Pine Street Tabernacle which later became Parkway Place Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her mother, Inez Ashmore Lucy. She is survived by: her husband of years, Harry W. Burnett of the home; 2 daughters, Cheryl Darlene Baird of Nashville, TN and Nancy Gayle Miller of Tulsa, OK; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her father, Lester B.

Mark Griffith Memorial- Westwood, 446-0010. COVINGTON Helen died December 1, 2000 at the age of 79. She was born in Claremore, OK on October 13, 1921 to Ishmael and Nell (Canady) LeBoeuf. She graduated from Holy Family School in 1939 and continued her friendships by having lunch with classmates the first Monday of each month. On February 15, 1941, Helen married Vernon "Five-Iron" Covington at Holy Family Cathedral.
The Church of St. Mary was their parish since 1965 where Helen was active in their bridge club. Her husband preceded her in death in 1993. Surviving are daughters, Carol Crase, Barbara (Earnest) Bean, Linda (John) Rucker, all of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Ronald LeBoeuf, Tulsa, OK and Ralph LeBoeuf, Houston, TX; grandchildren, John, Timothy and Matthew Rucker, James and Steven Crase, Maggie Tims, Daniel Bean; and 4 great -grandchildren. He was born on March 7, 1910 in Ft. Worth, TX to John and Pearl Estelle Slaughter Croskery. He was reared in Oklahoma City, OK and graduated from Oklahoma City Central High School. He was a graduate of Draughan Business College. He was a Sales Representative with Macklanburg Duncan Building Specialties and was later a real estate broker with Adams and Leonard Realtors.
At age 15 Gilbert was the youngest member in the history of the Oklahoma City Symphony. He played in the violin section. He married his high school sweetheart and they made their home in Tulsa. They were married 71 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Shrine Oriental Band.
As an active member of First Presbyterian Church, he delivered Meals On Wheels and administered the Helping Hand Fund. Gilbert is survived by: his wife, Virginia Forsythe the Country Club of Woodland Hills Retirement Center; 2 sons, The Reverend Dr. Robert W. Croskery of Cincinnati, OH and Daniel Melville Croskery of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Dr. Carol Croskery of Tulsa, OK; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
As a valued member of the community and a committed family man, he will be missed. He will now find his home in Heaven with Jesus. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Service under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service. Mr. Taylor died Friday, December 1, 2000 in Norman, OK. Joseph Taylor was born February 1, 1907 in Wilbur, WA to Moses Richard and Lula (Killman) Taylor.
He spent his childhood years in Alberta, Canada, where he gained an early and lifelong appreciation for the wonders of nature. The Taylor family moved to Chehalis, WA in 1918 and Joe completed high school there. Led by his natural artistic talents, Joe pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, followed by a Master of Fine Arts, both at the University of Washington. He completed his studies with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1 1932. Two years prior to graduation, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Elsie Rapier Taylor.
Joe and Elsie moved to Norman in 1933, when Joe began his career with the University of Oklahoma in its Art Department. In addition to his considerable talents as a sculptor, Joe discovered his enormous capacity and love for teaching. His 37 years at the University were filled with honors and accomplishments to include his induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1960 and the awarding of the David Ross Boyd Professorship in 1963. Joe retired from the University in 1969, but continued his work as a sculptor. Public recognition continued and in 1977 Joe was awarded Oklahoma University's highest honor, The Distinguished Service Citation.
In 1978 he received the first State award of Distinguished Lifetime Service in the Arts and in 1998 he was honored at a show for Oklahoma Sculpture Society's Lifetime Members. In addition to his distinguished career at the University, Joe began as early as 1935 to pursue his ranching interests. He became a very successful rancher and cattle breeder, which he enjoyed the rest of his life. His last few years were spent working with friends on his ranch outside of Alex, OK. Even though Joe had great success as a sculptor and a rancher, he viewed himself as a teacher first.
He is survived by: 2 brothers, Roy Taylor and Robert Taylor; twin sisters, Ruby Taylor and Ruth Sabin; a sister-in-law, Louise Guay; 2 nieces, Darcy Frost and Linda Dee Gross; 3 nephews, Dennis Taylor, Jim Taylor and Darryl Sabin, all reside in Washington and Oregon. In addition to family Joe leaves a number of loving and caring friends at the ranch. Joe and Elsie had been married for 62 years when she died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Noel and Henry Taylor; and 1 sister, Viola McArthy. Visitation will be 12 p.m.
to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to The Oklahoma University Foundation School of Art to be used for scholarships in memory of Joe Taylor.
WILL Lyle 95, of Tulsa, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2000. Born in Mukwonago, WI on March 7, 1905. Graduated from Kansas State University in 1929 and a Tulsa resident since 1945. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church and a civilian employee of the Tulsa District Corps of Engineers for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a Charter Member of the Scottish Club of Tulsa.

U.S.-WORLD Marvel Cooke, a journalist and political activist who was one of the first black women to work full time for a whiteowned newspaper, died Wednesday in New York of leukemia. She was 89. Cooke associated with many leading black Americans of the 1920s and '30s civil rights leaders like W.E.B. DuBois, a neighbor in the Harlem apartment building where she lived; actor and singer Paul Robeson, who, like Cooke, was a member of the Communist Party; NAACP leader Roy Wilkins, to whom she was once engaged; and novelist Richard Wright. Cooke first worked for black publications like the NAACP's Crisis magazine, the Amsterdam News and the People's Voice before joining the white-owned New York Daily Compass.
