My name is Kristin Hill. I'm a respiratory therapist (RT) at Elliot Hospital, where I primarily work in the intensive care unit, emergency department, pediatric unit, and adult med surg floors. Respiratory therapists provide care for all ages and stages of life, with or without chronic lung disease, in addition to responding to those in acute distress. We treat a wide range of patients with different diagnoses, including but not limited to asthma, COPD, emphysema, pneumonia, and children with RSV/bronchiolitis. RTs help improve the care of patients and work directly under the guidance of physicians to provide the best patient outcomes, utilizing RT-driven protocols and clinical knowledge. Respiratory therapists are responsible for a wide range of tasks, such as administering breathable medications, helping patients mobilize secretions, therapies for lung expansion, and placing patients of all ages on machines that assist breathing, like BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. We are members of the critical assessment team and respond to all cardiac arrests and trauma activations. We place patients on ventilators, monitor the settings, and provide valuable feedback to the physicians. One of the reasons I love being a respiratory therapist is the wide range of patients that I get to work with, from infants to geriatric patients. I am able to work independently as well as work with others who are part of the team. I have to think fast and be able to implement different modalities for the best patient care. I love knowing that I'm making a difference every day in the lives of the patients that I see.

Ron Costigan has been a dedicated volunteer at Elliot Hospital since July 2005, starting as a wayfinder before moving to an on-call role and now working exclusively in the mailroom. Ron was inspired to volunteer after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and received exceptional care at The Elliot. After her passing, Ron decided to give back to the institution that had provided such wonderful care. In addition to his work at Elliot Hospital, Ron has also volunteered for the Special Olympics and Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC, demonstrating his broad commitment to helping others. Ron grew up in nearby Pembroke, NH, and has lived in various parts of New Hampshire and Connecticut. He retired in 2001 from a successful career as the transportation manager at Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) in Berlin, Connecticut, where he oversaw transportation operations for all Northeast Utilities companies. After retiring, he and his wife returned to New Hampshire to be closer to their children, a son and a daughter.Ron is also an avid veggie gardener and golfer, and he spends October to May as a "snowbird" in Myrtle Beach, SC. He finds great satisfaction in his volunteer work, stating, “It feels like I am helping out the whole organization. It is not difficult work, but it is satisfying.”Thank you, Ron, for being an important part of our team and community!

My name is Emily Todd. I am a music therapist on the child life team at Elliot Hospital. A music therapist plays an important role in supporting children in a hospital setting, working across almost every area of the hospital. From aiding infants in the NICU to meet their developmental milestones to offering bereavement support to families losing a loved one, our scope is broad and impactful. Extensively trained, board-certified music therapists use music interventions to support both patients and their families. I use music to promote comfort by encouraging physical activity, reducing anxiety, inducing sleep, and helping patients cope with their hospital experience. Music can change the sensory environment, facilitating relaxation and helping the body to more effectively achieve medical goals. Our work not only enhances the emotional and psychological well-being of patients but also contributes to their overall medical care and recovery process.I love being a music therapist because it allows me to bring more dimension into healthcare. Music is such an important part of the human experience, and it can really make such a difference when added to the care of patients here at The Elliot.
